Orthotics are inserts that go in your shoes. They are used to reduce pain by correcting the way you're walking. It must be remembered that although they are a great therapy, they are only part of the treatment process and cannot be seen as a "cure all".

Soft and harder devices may be used. As a general rule harder devices are used to control movements and softer devices are used to redistribute pressure and cushion.

What's best for you is individual, just like prescribing a pair of glasses, the orthotics we prescribe for you depends on the way your foot is structured and the physics of how you're moving to manage the problem you have. There is a quite a lot involved in prescribing a pair of orthotics and isn't as easy as "one size fits all", so best to pop in an see what you need.

Orthotics may feel strange at first, but should not be painful, if they are it's a good sign something's wrong!
